Travelodge, City of London

Mountford Pigott is delighted to announce that a planning application has been submitted on behalf of Travelodge for a 285-bed hotel, which will be Travelodge’s largest development project in the City of London.

The scheme comprises two former office buildings at Broad Street Place and Eldon Street acquired from the City of London, in a prominent position adjacent to the western entrance into Liverpool Street Station and the new Elizabeth Line. The design combines the two buildings, addressing various level changes, and remodels and extends the 2 upper floors to Broad Street Place, as well as into the lightwell to the rear. The Eldon Street building is more substantially remodelled, with a larger new build upward extension of 4 storeys.

The majority of the existing fabric is retained and retrofitted, along with the main facades, however the combination of the buildings means that the existing cores can be rationalised. Internally the building provides retail and cultural space at ground and basement levels, together with the Hotel reception and bar/ café areas, that will also provide active frontages to the key facades. The building is then fitted out to provide a total of 285 hotel rooms, with a broad mix of room types. The building fabric will be comprehensively upgraded to achieve EPC A, with new windows throughout – the scheme will also achieve BREEAM Excellent. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2027.
