Cane Hill , Coulsdon

Project description

Mountford Pigott was initially appointed by Haxted Developments to secure reserved matters planning approval for the refurbishment and extension of the “Legacy Buildings” at Cane Hill, part of a 650+ unit residential development for Barratts on the site of a disused Victorian sanatorium. The Legacy Buildings comprise a 35m high water tower, a chapel and parts of the original administration building and these had been vacant for many years when our involvement with the project began. In the meantime, the admin block had been arsoned and had partially collapsed while the chapel and water tower suffered from severe infestations and deterioration which made survey and investigation difficult.

Sensitive designs for the repair and refurbishment of the existing fabric along with contemporary extensions were approved by Croydon Council to create 14 new dwellings in the admin block along with commercial use for the chapel and a spectacular 8-storey house in the water tower. Following planning approval Mountford Pigott developed the design for construction on this technically challenging project due for completion in the first quarter of 2023.
